"What's Written Within" Improvisational Dance

What's Written Within is an improvisational dance group that came together on the Island twelve years ago. Dance improvisation is a practice. People of all ages, of all ranges of experience with dance—or perhaps never having danced before—coming together to move with their unique body, with their unique story of what's written within. Beginning with a gentle group warm-up, the hour will progress to loosely structured improvisations guided by prompts. Sound will be improvised by Bruce MacNelly.

About Sandy, the group's facilitator

Sandy Broyard began exploring dance improvisation many years ago, with Mary Wigman in Berlin, Germany. Later she spent time with Group Motion in Philadelphia. She continued her journey discovering the body in motion, with Jack Weiner in New York. Sandy sees her role as a facilitator rather than teacher or director. She invites you to come and explore the possibilities, the fun, the surprises of dance that erupts in the moment.
