EFF’n Move Series with Tuni

Jun 5, 2026 - Aug 28, 2026

Fridays, 9 AM

June 5 through August 28

EFF’n Move (essentials for embodied, ecstatic, elevated, and empowered functionality) is a mindful, low-impact training approach focused on why you move, not just what you do. It uses resistance bands, body weight, and a blend of yoga, barre, and isometric techniques to build strength, mobility, and core stability.

Exercises are performed both standing and on the mat, with an emphasis on proper position and alignment to ensure safety and effectiveness. The method is adaptable to injuries and different fitness levels.

Key benefits include improved posture and core strength, greater muscular endurance, low-impact muscle toning, enhanced flexibility and balance, and increased body awareness through full-body conditioning. Carefully curated music playlists are included in this series of classes.

About Tuni

Antonia (Tuni) Deignan is the mother of five children, but prior to that miraculous and ongoing adventure she was a professional ballet and jazz dancer performing and touring with several dance companies. A bike accident at age fifty-five forced a do-over in her movement practice. She now fuses her lifelong resource of dance alignment into a daily stretch, strength, balance, and functional-movement training program. She employs body weight and resistance-band exercises, along with intentional stretching, isolating musculoskeletal function while emphasizing whole-body awareness and safe mechanics. Her goals in fitness are to empower your daily activities with smart movement patterns, which come with consistent body-alignment checks, optimizing functionality and nurturing your ability to move powerfully and safely.

She holds certifications in Hatha yoga (200), JKZ meditation (100), both mat and reformer Pilates, spinning, and exhale barre. She developed her own hybrid barre fitness class and trained several studios, including a chain of health clubs in Chicago (CAC). She owned and directed her own dance studio (T move) and pre-professional dance company, as well as taught for the Cleveland Ballet Company.

Side note: she also wrote an award-winning book, Underwater Daughter: A Memoir of Survival and Healing, published in 2023 by She Writes Press.

Loving Kindness and Mindfulness Meditation: A 90-Minute Journey

Saturday, June 6, 2026 - 8:30 AM EDT

Stillpoint is honored to welcome former Thai monk Boonyod Nonthong (Benny) for a special morning of mindfulness meditation training designed for all levels, from complete beginners to longtime practitioners.

This session offers a gentle yet powerful training of the heart and mind.

We will begin with guided loving-kindness meditation (Metta), cultivating compassion, goodwill, and warmth toward ourselves and others. This practice softens the heart, nurtures emotional balance, and creates a sense of belonging.

From there, Benny will guide participants into mindfulness of the body, using breath and body awareness to ground in the present moment. Through guided practice, participants will explore the Four Foundations of Mindfulness—body, feelings, mind, and mental states—with calm, non-judgmental awareness.

Please bring a notebook for reflection.

About Benny

At age eleven, Boonyod Nonthong began his journey as a novice monk. He then studied at the Wat Pho Meditation Center in Bangkok, Thailand. At age twenty-one, he began studying with the esteemed Mahasi Sayadaw in the Vipassana (insight) tradition. This included approximately three years of intensive practice (18 hours daily) under the venerable guidance of BhaddhantaWirosana, Ph.D. He has resided at Wat Nawamintararachutis (NMR Meditation Center) in Raynham, Massachusetts, for the past three years, where he continues to deepen his monastic practice and share mindfulness with the community.

Simply Schumann: A Lieder Concert

Saturday, June 6, 2026 - 3:00 PM EDT

David Behnke (baritone) and David Rhoderick (piano), in conjunction with the Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society, will be presenting a lieder concert, Simply Schumann, on Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m. The program consists of Schumann’s Liederkreis, Op. 24, and his Liederkreis, Op. 39.

This program represents the culmination of the Davids’ exploration of the great German, nineteenth-century song cycles. Previous concerts have included Schumann’s monumental Dichterliebe, as well as Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin and Winterreise.

Both of the Liederkreis were written in 1840, a year in which Schumann devoted himself exclusively to song composition and which resulted in all of his major song cycles. Opus 24 was the first composition in this astonishingly creative outburst, and Opus 39, which came toward the end of the period, is considered one of the great masterpieces of the genre. The texts for both song cycles epitomize the Romantic Era’s focus on the natural landscape and its near obsession with the ecstasy of love.

Tickets are available at the door only. A donation of $20 is suggested, with all proceeds going to support the MVCMS’s year-round educational programming.

David Behnke is a graduate of the master’s-degree opera program at the Yale School of Music. He subsequently received a fellowship for study at the Paris Conservatory, was a winner of the Boston Opera Company Young Artist Auditions, performed as a resident artist with the Tri Cities Opera Company, and has sung with music festivals throughout New England. After a 30-year hiatus on Wall Street, he has been a frequent performer on Martha’s Vineyard, in repertoire spanning opera oratorio, art song, and Broadway. Most recently he was a featured soloist in Ariel Ramirez’s Misa Criolla and Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs with the Island Community Chorus.

"What's Written Within" Improvisational Dance

Tuesdays, 4:15–5:15 PM

What’s Written Within is an improvisational dance group that came together on the Island twelve years ago. Dance improvisation is a practice. People of all ages, of all ranges of experience with dance—or perhaps never having danced before—coming together to move with their unique body, with their unique story of what’s written within. Beginning with a gentle group warm-up, the hour will progress to loosely structured improvisations guided by prompts. Sound will be improvised by Bruce MacNelly.

Sandy Broyard began exploring dance improvisation many years ago, with Mary Wigman in Berlin, Germany. Later she spent time with Group Motion in Philadelphia. Seen/Unseen: A Photography and Perception Workshop

Saturday, June 13, 2026 - 9:30 AM EDT

Saturday, June 13, 2026

9:30–11 AM

Led by Island photographer Melissa Knowles, this workshop invites participants to slow down, look closely, and engage the world with greater presence—through observation, mindfulness, and image-making.

Using guided exercises in perception and contemplative practice, participants will explore both the science of sight and more intuitive ways of seeing. Accessible photography instruction will be blended with reflective and creative approaches that encourage attention, curiosity, and intentionality.

Participants will be invited to notice what is often overlooked: light, texture, gesture, atmosphere, memory, and the emotional resonance of place and people. Through this process, photography becomes not only a tool for documentation but a practice of awareness and connection.

No prior photography experience is required, and cameras and lenses are provided. The price of this workshop is $25 per person.

About Melissa

Melissa Blythe Knowles is an artist, educator, and creative-care practitioner whose practice brings practical, emotional, creative, and spiritual support into everyday life—meeting people where they are, across experiences of living, illness, and grief. More information can be found at www.melissa-knowles.com.

At the heart of her approach is an attention to how we hold what matters—with people, materials, memory, image, and place. Her practice moves through photography, her publishing imprint Anima Press, teaching, material handwork, and creative companionship, with a simple, quiet sensitivity.

Her path has been shaped by both professional and lived experience across arts in health, education, advocacy, end-of-life care, and grief support—but most especially by the people she has loved and learned from, including her late partner, musician Geordie Gude, who encouraged her in the art of helping others feel deeply seen and heard through creativity.

Melissa’s studies with John Diamond, M.D., profoundly shaped her understanding of photography and perception. Through his teachings, she came to understand photography not simply as image-making, but as a relational and healing practice—a way of looking “beyond the obvious,” toward a deeper awareness of life, relationship, and spirit.
